Issues/Topics

10.12.2010
(#16)

Kleinke (2010: 3345–3366) - We will be discussing possible interfaces and interface-interactions between the two linguistic fields of Pragmatics and Cognitive Linguistics.
Key Points

17.12.2010
(#17)

Stabler (2010[2011]: 1-29[616-641]) - This was an enthralling session on the more formal points of language analysis.
21.01.2011
(#18)

Jackendoff (2010: 63-72) - We will be working through some issues on the evolution of human language. As Jackendoff somewhat provides a bird's eye point of view, it should lay some basic groundwork for subsequent sessions.

28.01.2011
(#19)

Hauser (2010: 91-99) - Admittedly, FLN may be empty if we follow Hauser's reasoning. Perhaps recursion lies outside FLN, yet the interfaces to C-I and AP would still remain.
04.02.2011
(#20)

final session

Piattelli-Palmarini (2010: 148-162) - So-called "laws of form" in biology and their impact on bio-linguistic reasoning will occupy us in this session. How non-adaptive is UG (Minimalism in its most recent form)? How communicatively dysfunctional may it turn out to be?
